The Opposite of the Hype Cycle

Metropolitan broadband projects retain their interest, but you have to admit, the pace is just slow.

Metropolitan broadband is not for every town, but for those where it makes sense, it can make a lot of sense. For example, see the events of yesterday regarding this one little project down here in Central Texas.

Based simply on this rather brief and innocuous local press coverage on the San Marcos, Texas, wireless project, the City's CTO received three phone calls from cities expressing interest to learn more, the very day it was published in the local daily.

It seems that wire services monitor various local press outlets and circulate the news far wider. Cities watch each other and they do indeed talk to one another. They're tentative, given the novelty and the risk, but still interested. This type of evidence gives me hope. Our project is indeed moving forward, hopefully to a positive conclusion early next year.

And with that positive conclusion, we'll be able to be far more open about all that has transpired here over the past 18 months. It's quite a story, really.
